Marist Women's Soccer Staggered 2-0 by Fairfield

Fairfield, Conn. - The Marist College women's soccer team was shut out for the third-straight game as Fairfield scored two second-half goals to lift the Stags to victory 2-0 this afternoon. Marist falls to 2-12-1 overall and 1-5-1 in the MAAC, while Fairfield improves to 8-7-1 overall and 5-3-0 in the MAAC.

Fairfield held a slight edge in the first half in shots, 8-6, but Marist was able to hold off the Stags, forcing a 0-0 draw at the intermission.

The deadlock was ended in the 62nd minute as Stag's defender Danielle Della Corna sent a corner kick in front of the Red Fox goal to forward Lindsey Pulito, who was able to use her body to play the ball into the net for the 1-0 advantage.

Fairfield added another goal 15 minutes later as midfielder Maureen Miller collected the ball off a Marist defender in front of the goal and buried it in the right side. Red Fox keeper Meredith Fabian managed to get a hand on the ball but could not come up with the stop.

Marist was unable to counter the Stags' second-half attack as the Red Foxes were held to three shots while Fairfield took 18 shots and eight corners.

Fabian notched 10 saves on the day while Fairfield keeper Katie Ely made seven stops.

The Red Foxes are back at Leonidoff Field for their final two regular season games. Marist takes on Saint Peter's on Friday, October 31st at 7:00, and plays its final game on Sunday, November 2nd.
