Lawrenceville, NJ- The women's soccer team fell 2-1 to Rider this afternoon, dropping their first Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game of the season.
Rider opened the scoring at the 8:22 mark when Sarah Artale connected with Tami Coyle, pushing the ball passed keeper Meredith Fabian. The Red Foxes tied it up 17 minutes later when junior Libby Ludwig's boot from 30 yards out made its way over the head of Broncs keeper Erin Woellen and in the top of the net. It was Ludwig's first goal of the season.
Rider pulled ahead 2-1 in the 52nd minute after a Marist foul set up a Broncs direct kick by Artale. Artale's kick from 30 yards out went over the head of a leaping Fabian and in the back of the net.
The Red Foxes were outshot 27-6 by the Broncs. Fabian notched a career-high 14 saves, including eight in the second half.
Marist falls to 1-8-0 on the season and 0-1-0 in MAAC play. The Red Foxes continues their road trip as they travel to Balitmore, MD to take on Loyola on Sunday, October 5th.
