Poughkeepsie, NY - Marist College men's soccer team would go into overtime to seal the 1-0 win against Rider tonight in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference home opener. The seventh place regionally ranked Red Foxes now improve to 6-1-1/1-0-0 while Rider drops 0-10-0/0-2-0.
The game would become a tug-of-war as the Broncs pressed the first half of play with five shots on goal while the Red Foxes would then press the second half of the game with five shots themselves.
The lone goal of the game would come at the 102:37 minute of play as sophomore midfielder Kyle Nunes (Ossining, NY/Ossining) crossed the ball from midfield to rookie midfielder Keith Detelj (Sayville, NY/Connetquot) who one-timed it past the Broncs goalie.
Detelj leads the Red Foxes with 11 point behind four goals and three assists on the season. Junior keeper Mike Valenti Sicklerville, NJ/Paul VI) collected his first shut-out of the season while posting a .861 save percentage on the year.
The Red Foxes will be in action once again on Sunday, October 5th when they host MAAC rival Loyola at 1:00pm.
