Poughkeepsie, NY-- The Marist College women's soccer team scored two unanswered goals in the second half en route to a 2-1 victory over Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference rival Saint Peter's. With the win, the Red Foxes pull ahead of the Peahens in the MAAC standings, with a record of 2-5-1 and an overall record of 3-12-1. Saint Peter's falls to 2-16-1 and 1-6-1 in the MAAC.
After a scoreless first half, the Peahens struck first. Freshman Laura Gubitosa notched the first point of the game at 47:55 as she headed a Melissa Neglia pass just out of the reach of a diving Meredith Fabian.
Junior Libby Ludwig tied the game 1-1 in the 64th minute, knocking in the rebound from a shot by freshman Justine Caccamo that bounced off the crossbar. The goal was Ludwig's second of the season and the second assist of the year for Caccamo.
With just under 10 minutes remaining in the game, Ludwig connected with junior Courtney Moore, who then broke away from her defender and stuffed the ball into the lower right corner.
Saint Peter's outshot Marist 10-9. Fabian had three saves on the evening, while the Peahens' Andrea Kovalcik had two.
The Red Foxes are back at Leonidoff Field for their final regular season home game on Sunday, November 2nd at 1:00pm against conference foe Manhattan. Fifteen minutes prior to kickoff, there will be a Senior Day ceremony to honor the six Red Foxes graduating this year.
