Marist College Rally Falls Short Against Canisius

Poughkeepsie, NY - Marist College volleyball team fell to Metro Atlantic Conference foe Canisius in five games today at the McCann Center. The Red Foxes (12-20/4-4 MAAC) will now prepare for Niagara on Sunday as they seek a second consecutive MAAC Championship berth.

The Red Foxes exploded on to the court in the first game as they defeated Canisius 30-22. However, the Golden Griffs would rally back in game two for a 30-14 final while Marist College would then rebound and win game three 30-26. Game four would come down to the wire as the score would go into grid lock more than four times before Canisius pulled out the win to send the match into the deciding fifth game.

Junior setter Amy Gillespie (Lebo, KS/NE Oklahoma A&M) led the Red Foxes with a double double posting 14 kills and 14 digs on the game. Freshman middle blocker Sally Hanson (Guerneville, CA/El Molino) also collected 14 kills while freshman outside hitter Jamie Kenworthy (Aston, PA/Cardinal O'Hara) dealt 17 kills to the Red Fox cause. Sophomore setter Meghan Cochrane (Placentia, CA/El Dorado) chipped in 58 assists and 10 digs on the afternoon.

The Red Foxes will host Niagara on Sunday, November 2nd at the McCann Center. Game time is scheduled for a 1:00pm start.
