POUGHKEEPSIE, NY- The Marist College women's basketball team won their first game of the season, downing Lehigh University 66-53 this evening at the McCann Center.

Marist (1-1) jumped out to an early 8-4 lead in the first half on a layup by senior Maureen Magarity. The Red Foxes would not look back, leading by as much as 10 points in the first. Lehigh (0-2) cut the deficit to six at the half, as Jessica DePalo sank a jumper at the buzzer, bringing the score to 35-29.

The Red Foxes came out firing in the second half, going on a 7-2 run and extending their lead to 42-31. Marist continued their offensive surge for most of the second period, leading by as much as 15 points at the 6:15 mark. Lehigh made a run late in the half, cutting the lead to eight on a layup by Dawn Gorynski, but Marist countered with their own 9-2 run to end the game.

Magarity played 32 minutes for the Red Foxes, scoring 18 points and adding eight rebounds, two blocks and an assist. Junior Kristin Keller turned in a strong performance, scoring a career-high 13 points on 6-12 shooting from the floor, while pulling down eight rebounds and blocking three shots in 22 minutes.

DePalo led the way for the Mountain Hawks scoring a game-high 19 points and recorded 11 rebounds. Gorynski tallied eight points, three rebounds, two assists and a steal.

As a team, Marist made only eight turnovers on the night, while Lehigh turned the ball over 17 times. The Red Foxes also held slight advantage on the boards, outrebounding Lehigh 44-43.

The Red Foxes return to action on Monday, December 1st as they travel to Philadelphia, PA to take on the University of Pennsylvania.
