Red Foxes Fall To Fairfield, 74-60, In MAAC Contest

FAIRFIELD, Conn. (AP)- Terrence Todd scored 18 points and Deng Gai added 17 as Fairfield beat MARIST 74-60 in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game Tuesday.

Gai added eight rebounds and four blocks for the Stags (4-1, 1-0).

DeWitt Maxwell chipped in with 13 points and eight rebounds.

The first half was close, featuring seven lead changes, and the Stags took a 32-29 lead into the break.

MARIST, playing without starting center Will McClurkin, led by as many as four points, but Fairfield went on an 8-0 run late in the half, keyed by a pair of Todd 3-pointers.

Fairfield broke it open in the second half with a 30-7 run, including 11 in a row at one point.

Todd scored five quick points in the half and set up Maxwell for a fast-break hoop with 16:58 left to put the Stags ahead 42-29.

Gai took over, scoring three hoops inside and controlling the defensive glass.

Rob Thomson capped the run with a hoop in the post with 8:30 to play.

It was the second straight win for the Stags. MARIST (1-5, 1-1) was led by Carl Hood and Chris Handy, who each scored 12 points. Handy added 11 rebounds.

MARIST shot just 36.4 percent from the floor in the second half while Fairfield made 63.6 percent of its shots.

The Stags also made 17-of-20 from the foul line.
