ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - Davis Bennett scored 25 points as Marist rallied to beat
Siena, 79-74, Saturday.
Siena (13-7, 7-4 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) built a first-half lead
of as much as 14 points and led 36-25 at halftime.
Marist (8-11, 4-6) scored the first five points of the second half to come
within six, but the Saints answered with a 13-6 run to extend their lead. The
Red Foxes rallied with a 16-0 run, capped by consecutive 3-pointers from
Bennett, to give Marist its first lead of the game with 10:01 remaining.
Siena briefly regained the lead on a lay-up by Antoine Jordan before Marist
went on a 12-2 run to take the lead for good at 66-57 with just four minutes
left. The spurt was highlighted by Brandon Ellerbee's dunk and a 3-pointer by
Bennett, who was 4-of-5 from behind the 3-point arc and shot 9-9 from the free
throw line.
Ellerbee finished with 20 points and six assists, and Nick Eppehimer scored
13 points. Chris Handy had seven rebounds for Marist.
Tommy Mitchell led Siena with 15 points, while Prosper Karangwa had 14
points and six assists. Michael Haddix and Austin Andrews had 12 points apiece.
Jordan added 15 rebounds.
Marist shot 47.2 percent from the floor, 62.5 percent in the second half.
The Red Foxes held Siena to 38.2 percent shooting.
