Poughkeepsie, NY-The Marist College women's basketball team fell to the Manhattan College Jaspers, 72-63, this evening at the McCann Center. The Red Foxes drop to 11-14 on the season and 7-9 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play.
Marist found themselves up 38-37 at halftime and hung with Manhattan until going into a scoring drought for five minutes with eight minutes to play. A late second half surge by the Jaspers saw them go on a 9-0 run taking an 11-point lead.
The Red Foxes finished the game with three double digit scorers, led by junior forward Stephanie Del Preore (Livingston, NJ) with 18 points. Del Preore scored her 700th career point with 15:07 left in the first half. She also recorded three rebounds and four blocked shots. Kerry Sullivan (Crompond, NY) scored 15 points, going 5-10 from behind the arc, while Maureen Magarity (Wappingers Falls, NY) finished with 10 points and six rebounds.
Manhattan's Tiffany Schettig led all scorers with 20 points, hitting 6-8 from the three-point line. Rosalee Mason finished with 18 points and nine rebounds.
Marist shot 45.8 percent from the field compared to Manhattan's 45.0 percent.
The Red Foxes return to action Friday, February 28th, when they travel to Loudonville, NY to take on the Siena College Saints. Marist returns home for its final game of the season on Sunday, March 2nd, taking on St. Peter's.
