Poughkeepsie, NY - The Marist College Department of Athletics hosted its annual Girl Scout Clinic on Saturday, January 25th at the McCann Center. The event, which lasted three hours, was attended by nearly 100 girl scouts from around Dutchess County.
The girls scouts were welcomed by Marist volleyball player Christina Brozek, before partipating in instructional sessions, taught by Marist athletes. Red Fox student-athletes from the basketball, crew, water polo, lacrosse, soccer, softball, tennis and volleyball teams all participated, with nearly 75 student-athletes in all attending the days events.
The Red Foxes sponsor various events throughout the year to encourage local youth to particpate in sports at all levels. The events also instill in the younger children, the importance of a good education from the early stages.
Marist College is a member of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC), a 10-team Division I conference in the NCAA. The Red Foxes have won four straight Commissioner Cup Trophies, awared for overall excellence among the league's athletic departments. Marist also had 99 student-athletes recognized on the MAAC Academic Honor Roll, the most of any school in the league.
