Poughkeepsie, NY-The Marist College women's basketball team fell to the Fairfield University Stags, 57-55, tonight at the McCann Center. The Stags snapped the Red Foxes three game win streak as the Red Foxes drop to 10-10 on the season, and 6-5 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC).
The Red Foxes were up by one point with 1:37 left in the game on a free throw shot by Kerry Sullivan (Crompond, NY). The Stags then took the lead back on a jumper by Janelle McManus, making the score 56-55. McManus made a free throw with four seconds left bringing the final score to 57-55.
Junior forward Maureen Magarity (Wappingers Falls, NY) led all scorers with 22 points, going 9-16 from the field and 4-5 from the free throw line. Stephanie Del Preore (Livingston, NJ) handed out a career-high four assists, while grabbing a team-high, seven rebounds.
Marist shot 34.5 percent from the field while Fairfield shot 42.9 percent. The score was tied 11 times throughout the game and the lead changed hands 12 times. The Red Foxes scored 18 points off the bench as the Stags scored 11.
The Red Foxes return to action Sunday, February 9th, when they host the Siena Saints at the McCann Center. The game will be showed live on the Metro Channel with the tip-off scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
