Young Records Double-Double To Pace Marist To 72-65 Win Over Loyola

Poughkeepsie, NY - The Marist College men's basketball team used a double-double from junior Dennis Young (Warrenton, GA) to defeat Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) opponent, Loyola College, this afternoon at the McCann Center, 72-65. Young scored 16 points on 8-12 shooting and pulled down a game-high 11 boards, recording his fourth double-double of the season.

In a game with five lead changes and four ties in the first 7:42 of the game, Marist (9-12; 5-7) used a three-pointer at the buzzer to open a 31-25 halftime lead. The Greyhounds (4-16; 1-10) cut the lead to three ponts, 38-35 with 15:22 left in the game, but Marist answered with a 6-1 run, which Loyola quickly answered with a 5-0 run, making the scored 44-41 with 12:53 to go in the game. Marist would scored the next eight points and go on a 17-5 run over the next 8:00 to open a 61-46 lead, to which Loyola could not recover from.

Young had two points and five rebounds at the intermission, before shooting 7-9 from the floor in the second half, and pulling in six boards, to reach his final totals. Young also finished with three blocks, a game-high which teammate Chris Handy (Salt Lake City, UT) also achieved.

Nick Eppehimer (Pottstown, PA) tallied 20 points for the Red Foxes, for the seventh time this year, connecting three times from downtown. Brandon Ellerbee (Plano, TX) scored 12 points for Marist, to go along with his six assists and no turnovers in his 38 minutes of action. All seven Red Foxes tallied at least two points, two assists and had at least on rebound in the game, headlined by the starting five all scoring seven or more points in the game. David Bennett (Salt Lake City, UT) finished with nine points and two assists. Carl Hood (Houston, TX) came off of the bench to score six and dish out two assists, while Eric Siegrist (Poughkeepsie, NY) also came off of the bench to dish out five assists, pulling in four boards and scoring two points.

Loyola was led by the game-high 21 points of Lucious Jordan, who shot 8-14 from the field, and pulled down five boards while dishing out four assists. Donovan Thomas scored 18 points for the Greyhounds, while pulling in seven boards.

The Red Foxes will play their next three games on the road, beginning with a game at Saint Peter's on Wednesday, February 12th.
