Norfolk, VA-- Tim Allen had three-hits for the Marist College baseball team, including a two-run homer, to lead the Red Foxes to a 3-2 win over Old Dominion this afternoon. The Red Foxes improve to 2-0 on the year, while ODU falls to 4-4.
The Red Foxes struck first when Mike Sidoti singled, to score Matt Griffiths in the top of the first-inning. Allen homored in the fourth-inning, scoring Keith Brachold as well, to give Marist a 3-0 lead. Marist finished with seven hits on the afternoon, while ODU knocked out 11 base hits. Brachold finished the day 1-5 with the run scored for the Red Foxes.
George Heath went 1.0 innings, allowing a run, before giving way to Chris Homer, who earned the save. Homer struck out one and allowed two hits, as he stopped two ODU runs, one in the eighth and one again in the ninth. Tracz improves to 1-0 on the year and now has 21 career victories, starting his third season at Marist.
The two teams will meet again on Sunday, at 1:00 pm, wrapping up the three-game set, which Marist leads 2-0. ODU had won three straight games entering the weekend set, and Ricky Shefka, the starting pitcher for ODU, is the reigning CAA Rookie of the Week, and falls to 1-2 on the season.
