Norfolk, VA - The Marist College baseball team completed a three-game sweep of Old Dominion, defeating the Monarchs 9-2 on Sunday at the Bud Metheny Complex. The Red Foxes improve to 3-0, while the Monarchs fall to 4-5.
The Red Foxes struck early, knocking out Monarch starter James Burok in the first inning, with five runs on four hits. Matt Griffiths (Los Altos, CA) and Eric Johnson (Park Forest, IL) opened the game with back-to-back doubles for Marist.
Old Dominion scored a run in both the fifth and sixth inning, but Marist countered with two runs in the sixth inning to secure the victory.
Ryan Kondratowicz (Ft. Lauderdale, FL) pitched eight innings to earn the win, giving up just six hits, while striking out three. John McGorty (West Sayville, NY) led the Red Foxes with three hits, including two doubles and two runs scored. Griffiths also had three hits, and added two runs batted in and a run, while Mike Sidoti (Staten Island, NY) added two hits, with a run and RBI.
The Red Foxes return to action on Friday, March 7th, when they travel to College Park, MD to take on the University of Maryland at 6:00 p.m.
