Marist Runs Past Army 15-5 In Baseball

Poughkeepsie, NY-The Marist College baseball team won its eight game in 10 tries, defeating visiting Army, 15-5, this afternoon on the McCann Baseball Field. The Red Foxes improve to 15-9-1, 8-1-1 in their last 10 games, while Army falls to 5-15-1.

Senior Ryan Kondratowicz (Fort Lauderdale, FL) earned the win for Marist, as he struck out 10 Cadets in his 6.2 innings of work. He allowed five runs, three earned on eight hits and walked only one, as he improved to 3-1 on the year. Travis Timmons (Georgetown, DE) tossed 1.1 innings, striking out one and allowing one hit, while Kevin Kelly (Skaneateles, NY) tossed the ninth to seal the win.

Army struck first, tallying a run in the first inning, but Marist would score twice in the second and three times in the third to make it 5-1. Army tallied two more in the fourth, to close to 5-3 and would score twice in the top of the seventh to make the scored 6-5.

Andy Kiriakedes (Great Barrington, MA) doubled with one out in the seventh, and scored when Keith Brachold (Attleboro, MA) singled to right. Brachold would come around to give Marist an 8-5 lead on a Kevin Grauer (Plain City, OH) RBI double. The Red Foxes would expand that lead in the eighth inning, scoring seven runs off of four Army pitchers, to give the final margin of victory.

Brachold finished the day 2-3 with three RBI, while John McGorty (West Sayville, NY) went 3-3 with three runs scored, a double and a triple. Grauer finished with three RBI, as did Tim Allen (Wappingers Falls, NY) both of whom were 1-4 with a run scored in the game. Tyler Brock (Georgetown, DE) had two doubles, going 2-5 with two runs scored, and Josh Pardo (Perth Amboy, NY) had three runs scored on a 1-3 day. Kiriakedes was 3-4 with two runs scored and an RBI on the day.

Josh Holden (Hudson, OH) was 2-3 for Army, while Scott Komaromy (Algonquin, IL) and Schuyler Williamson (Pensacola, FL) each had two RBI for Army. Dan Pluff (Maplewood, MN) started on the mound, and struck out two in his one inning of work, while his replacement, Wade Greenlee (Bourbonnais, IL) took the loss, falling to 2-3, allowing eight runs, seven earned, on 11 hits in his 5.1 innings of work. Army allowed 16 hits on the day, walking six and striking out five.

Marist returns to action on Saturday, April 12th, when it hosts Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) foe, Niagara, in a noon double-header. Marist is 6-3 in MAAC play, while Niagara is 6-2 in conference action.
