Poughkeepsie, NY - The Marist College baseball team dropped a 3-1 decision to Stony Brook this afternoon, in a game played on the McCann Baseball Field. The Red Foxes, now 18-10-1 overall, had a five game winning streak snapped, while Stony Brook lengthed its winning streak to 11 games, improving to 18-9 overall.
The game was tied 1-1 entering the top of the eight, when Marist starting pitcher Scott Chambers (Albany, NY) walked the Stony Brook leadoff hitter, and was relieved by George Heath (Henrietta, NY). He walked the first batter that he fgaced and then a bunt single led to the game-winning run crossing the plate.
Marist threatened in the eight inning when Tyler Brock (Georgetown, DE) led off with a pinch hit walk. Andy Kiriakedes (Great Barrington, MA) doubled to right center field, but two perfect Stony Brook relay throws nailed pinch runner Josh Pardo (Pert Amboy, NY) at the plate, and Marist came away empty.
Chambers tossed 7.0 innings, falling to 0-1, as he allowed two runs on seven hits. He struck out three batters and walked two in the effort. Stony Brook would tally five hits and one run off of Heat in his 2.0 innings of work, in which he struck out one batter.
The Seawolves used eight pitchers in the game, with Dave Mischo (Bayport, NY) earning the win, improving to 3-2, as he allowed one hit in pitching the bottom of the seventh inning. Kevin Fitzgerald (Ronkonkoma, NY) earned his first save of the year tossing the ninth, walking one and striking out one. Stony Brook pitching allowed just five Marist hits.
Keith Brachold (Attleboro, MA) had a single, going 1-4, extending his hitting streak to 14 games. Tim Allen (Wappingers Falls, NY) scored the Red Foxes lone run in the fourth inning, when he was driven in by John McGorty (West Sayville, NY).
Marist will travel to Long Island on Wednesday, to take on Hofstra in a 3:30 pm game, before returning home for a three-game set with Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) foe Fairfield. The two teams will play a double-header on Saturday, April 19th at noon, and a single game on Monday, April 21st, at 3:00 pm.
