Poughkeepsie, NY-The Marist College women's tennis team was defeated by conference rival Siena, 4-3, this afternoon. The Red Foxes drop to 10-4 on the season and 5-3 in league action.
The match was tied going into the decisive doubles matches with the nationally ranked Saints winning two out of the three. The Red Foxes team of Tara Dolan (Hopewell Junction,NY) and Kathryn Szymanski (Scituate, Mass.) defeated Betsy Brookins and Meghan Slenkamp, 9-8, in the teams only doubles win of the day.
In singles competition, Diana Perachio (Newtown, Conn.) was victorious in her match over Andrea Disponzio, 6-1,6-0. Freshman Yana Tikhonko (Brooklyn, NY) won 7-5, 6-7 (7-5), 6-3, in a close match over Denisa Hluohova. Courtney McGeever (Wickliffe, OH) got the other singles victory when she defeated Brookins, 6-4, 6-4. Yana Krugly (Staten Island, NY) fell to Nikki Mayer, 6-1, 6-0, while Colleen Kelly (Poughkeepsie, NY) dropped her match to Brooke Fisher, 6-4, 6-4. Dolan, who was victorious in doubles, fell to Slenkamp, 7-6 (7-4), 6-1.
The Red Foxes return to action Wednesday, April 16th, when they travel to Connecticut to take on league foe Fairfield at 3:00 p.m.
