Jersey City, NJ--The Marist College women's tennis team dropped a 4-0 decision to the top-seed Niagara, this afternoon in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Tournament semi-final, played at St. Peter's College. The Red Foxes finish tied for third place, as inclement weather has forced the cancellation of the consolation bracket of the tournament.
Yana Krugly played her second three-set match of the tournament in her number three singles match, falling 2-1. After falling 6-0 in the first set, she rebounded to take a 6-2 win in the second set, before falling 6-0 in the deciding set. Yana Tikhouko dropped her first singles match, 6-0, 6-0 to Milena Matijevic, while Diana Perachio fell, 6-0, 6-1 in the second singles, to Miriam Al-Shikarky.
With the fourth point scored by Niagara, the fourth, fifth and sixth singles matches were suspended.
It was the Red Foxes second MAAC Tournament semifinal appearance in as many years, and Marist has finished third in both of those tournaments. Niagara advances to face the second-seed, Siena, for the tournament title and an automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament.
