Baseball Ties 5-5 With CCSU When Darkness Settles In After Seven Innings

April 3, 2003

Box Score

New Britain, CT--The Marist College baseball team had its road game at Central Connecticut State University called after 7.0 innings when it became to dark to play, tying the Blue Devils 5-5. The Red Foxes, 5-0-1 in their last six games, are now 12-8-1 on the year, while CCSU improves to 10-5-1.

Marist struck first in its first at-bat of the game when Keith Brachold led off with a single, hitting for the sixth straight game. He would advance to second base on a walk and then to third when the runner behind him was caught stealing at third. Mike Sidoti singles to left for the RBI, plating Brachold.

The Red Foxes took a 2-0 lead in the third inning, again with Brachold leading off with a single, and then advancing by stealing second base. Kevin Grauer singled through the right side to score Brachold. CCSU answered that run with five in the bottom of the third inning, all coming off starting pitcher Scott Chambers.

Marist rallied to tie the game in the top of the seventh, plating three runs. Bryan Towler earned a lead of walk, followed by a pinch hit single from Josh Pardo. Brachold reached again after being hit by a pitch to load the bases. Grauer drove in the first run with a sacrifice fly to left field, bringing up Tim Allen. Allen singled to the first baseman, who threw the ball away, allowing both Pardo and Brachold to score, and tie the game at 5-5.

Travis Timmons retired the Blue Devils in order in the bottom of the seventh, before the game was called. Timmons tossed 4.1 innings, allowing just one hit, striking out four and walking only one batter. Chambers lasted 2.2 innings, allowing five runs on five hits, to go along with four walks and a strikeout.

Brachold was 2-3 with three runs scored, while Grauer finished 1-2 with two RBI, for the Red Foxes. Marist finished the game with eight base hits, while allowing only six by the Blue Devils.
