Poughkeepsie, NY-The Marist College women's tennis team fell to conference rival Loyola, 5-2, yesterday afternoon. The Red Foxes are now 8-3 overall and 3-2 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) action.
In first singles, Diana Perachio (Newtown, Conn.) defeated Carolyn Pilkington, 6-2, 6-0, while Yana Tikhonko (Brooklyn, NY) got the other win for the Red Foxes with a victory over Kaitlin Russo 6-3, 6-1.
Marist lost the next four singles matches. Tara Dolan (Hopewell Junction, NY) fell to Gina Turturiello in third singles, 7-6 (8-6), 7-5, 11-9. Courtney McGeever (Wickliffe, OH) lost to Colleen Ruane in three sets 6-2, 2-6, 15-13. Freshman Colleen Kelly (Poughkeepsie, NY) fell to Amy Nitch 7-6, 6-1, while Kathryn Szymanski (Scituate, MA) dropped her match 7-5, 6-0 to Jessica Liberto.
In doubles competition, Perachio and Tikhonko lost to Pilkington and Russo, 8-2, while McGeever and Kelly dropped their match to Turturiello and Ruane, 8-1.
The Red Foxes return to action Tuesday, April 8th, when they host Siena at 2:00 p.m.
