Whitney Point, NY-The Marist College men's and women's crew team had a very successful day at the New York State Championships this afternoon. The Red Foxes will have six out of seven boats race in the finals held tomorrow morning.
For the first time in two years the women's varsity eight will race in the finals after placing second in their heat. The Red Foxes defeated higher-ranked Hobart Williams-Smith to earn a spot after only the top two advance on. Top-ranked Fordham came in first. The final will see Marist pitted against Vassar, Army, Fordham, Buffalo, and Ithaca. The race is set to begin at 8:20 a.m.
In other races, the men's varsity eight advanced to the finals which will take place at 8:45 a.m. on Sunday, May 4th. The men's varsity four and the women's novice four both made it to the finals with the men winning their heat and the women placing second. The men's freshman eight also won their heat to advance to tomorrow's finals. The women's novice eight placed third and they will compete in the petite finals.
The Red Foxes placed second in the men's second eight race, falling to Army by three-tenths of a second.
Marist continues racing Sunday, May 4th, with the finals concluding at 11:30 a.m.
