Poughkeepsie, NY -- Marist College head women's basketball coach Brian Giorgis announced this afternoon the hiring of Megan Gebbia as assistant women's basketball coach.
"I am excited to have Megan joining the Marist College family and the women's basketball program," said Giorgis. "She has a wealth of recruiting experience and her playing and coaching background will greatly benefit our program."
Gebbia served as an assistant coach at Wright State University in Dayton, OH, last season, helping the Raiders to be the only Horizon League team to beat nationally ranked UW-Green Bay in conference action. Wright State finished the 2002-03 campaign fourth in the league, after being chosen to finish last.
A 1994 graduate of Towson State University with a degree in Psychology, Gebbia began her coaching career at her alma mater as a part-time coach in the 1994-95 season. While playing at Towson, she was named the 1992-93 team Most Valuable Player, as well as earning the Big South Conference Three Point Shooter of the Year honor her senior season.
After her tenure at Towson, Gebbia moved onto American University serving as an assistant coach for the 1995-96 season. The following season she accepted an assistant coaching position at the University of Maryland Baltimore County, where she served from 1996-2002. As the Retrievers recruiting coordinator from 1998, Gebbia organized the program's recruiting efforts nationwide, and internationally, netting a conference Rookie of the Year and three All-Conference honors among her recruits.
Marist just completed its sixth-season as a member of the 10 institution, NCAA Division I Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC). The Red Foxes posted a 13-16 record in 2002-03, including winning the programs first-ever MAAC Tournament game.
