Albany, NY - Marist College finished with a 2-2 final in their season opener with non-conference rival SUNY Albany today. The Red Foxes would battle through a scoreless double overtime out shooting the Great Danes 19-16.
The Great Danes would open the scoring in the first half with a header from Lucas Machado. The Red Foxes would answer back when freshman forward Keith Detelj (Sayville, NY/Connequite) assisted a breakaway into the lower left corner from sophomore forward Bruno Machado (Danbury, CT/Danbury). Albany would take the lead once again after scoring on a penalty kick with less than two minutes left in the half. Machado would tie the score in the 74:00 minute with a cross from junior midfielder Robert Van Dyke (Arnold, MD/Saint Mary's). Junior keeper Mike Valenti (Sicklerville, NJ/Paul VI) would go the distance with five saves on the day.
The Red Foxes will be in action once again on Saturday, September 6 when they host Stony Brooks under the lights of Leonodioff field. Kick off is scheduled for 7:00pm.
