Sept. 15, 2003

Box Score

New Britain, CT- The Marist College women's soccer team dropped its fifth-straight game of the season, losing to Central Connecticut 2-1 this afternoon.

The Red Foxes started strong, controlling the ball for four of the first five minutes taking three shots on goal in that span. The Blue Devils (4-1) countered by controlling the ball for most of the first half, taking six shot on goal, and holding Marist to just the three shots.

Freshman Marina Lorentzson opened the scoring for Central Connecticut at the 20:21 mark, recovering freshman Jess McCavanagh's shot attempt that sailed wide left and booting it into the lower left corner of the goal.

Five minutes into the second half, McCavanagh gave the Blue Devils a 2-0 lead when she took a pass from sophomore Sophie Hopper and put it in the back of the net. Hopper fed McCavanagh with a pass over the top of the defense to give the Blue Devils the edge.

Marist cut the lead to 2-1 in the 56th minute when freshman Justine Caccamo (Bohemia, NY/Connetquot) lofted a goal into the lower left corner of the net from the opposite side of the field. For Caccamo it was her third goal of the season. The forward has scored in each of the last three games for the Red Foxes.

The Blue Devils out shot Marist 12-4. Marist keeper Meredith Fabian (Merrick, NY/Calhoun) recorded 6 saves during her 90 minutes in net, while Ashley Ferra had two for Central.

The Red Foxes are back in action on Saturday, September 20th as they travel to Long Island University. Marist returns home to Leonidoff field on Sunday, September 21st at 1:00 pm for a non-conference match-up against the University of Vermont.
