ALBANY, N.Y. - Keydren Clark scored nine of his game-high 27 points in the final 2:26 of the game, propelling Saint Peter's to a 70-64 victory over Marist in a MAAC game played at Albany's Pepsi Arena Monday afternoon.
The Peacocks (9-6/5-1 MAAC) used a balanced attack in the first half to build a 35-24 halftime lead. Jamie Sowers and Corey Hinnant came off the bench to account for 16 points before the intermission. The duo joined Clark in double-figures with 14 and 10 points respectively.
Jared Jordan, who earlier in the day was named MAAC Rookie of the Week, led Marist with 18 points. Brandon Ellerbee scored 17 and Chris Handy added 11.
Marist (5-11/3-4) rallied to take a 62-61 lead on an Ellerbee three from the top of the key with 2:56 remaining. Clark answered with a three of his own on Saint Peter's ensuing possession.
Clark, who entered the game ranked second nationally in scoring, struggled with his shot most of the afternoon, converting just 3-of-13 three-point tries. He pushed the lead to four with a driving layup on the Peacocks next possession and converted two free throws after Marist's final score of the game to seal the outcome. Clark converted his last 10 attempts from the charity stripe after missing his first two.
The two teams will meet again Saturday at Marist (today's game was considered a Saint Peter's home game for scoring purposes). Saint Peter's will host Iona on Thursday.
