POUGHKEEPSIE, NY- The Marist College women's basketball team fell to conference rival Siena 65-55 this afternoon at the Pepsi Arena. With the loss, the Red Foxes fall to 8-6 overall, 4-2 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC), while Siena (10-7, 7-2) moves into first place in the MAAC.
The Saints who were down most of the game mounted a comeback led by Jolene Johnston and Nathalie Marchino late in the second half to pull out the victory. With a 6:22 remaining Liene Jansone hit two free throws to give Siena their first lead of the day. The Saints continued to their offensive surge, going up by as many as 11 points with 2:18 remaining.
Marist played well in the first half, shooting 44 percent from the floor. Senior Stephanie Del Preore (Livingston, NJ/Livingston) scored the Red Foxes' first six points of the day and had 14 points in the first half. She finished the day with a game-high 20 points and a team-high seven rebounds. Maureen Magarity (Wappingers Falls, NY/Our Lady of Lourdes) also played well scoring 10 of her 18 points in the first period.
For Siena, four Saints finished the day in double figures, with Marchino leadin the way with 16 points. Johnston finished with 15 points and a game-high nine rebounds. Jansone added 11 points while Lauren Suber finished with 10 points.
The Red Foxes return to action on Thursday, January 22nd as they face the Stags of Fairfield at the Arena at Harbor Yard.
