BALTIMORE - Loyola College won their first game of the season defeating Marist 63-57 Thursday night at Reitz Arena. With the loss, the Red Foxes fall to 5-13 overall and 3-6 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC).
The Red Foxes climbed back from a 10-point deficit bringing the score to 56-54 with under two minutes remaining, but the Greyhounds Jamaal Dixon scored on a drive and later made two free throws for a six-point lead with 42 seconds left.
Earlier in the half, a three-point play by Charlie Bell put the Greyhounds up by 10 with 18:37 remaining, but Marist held Loyola to only two baskets over the next seven minutes while Marist closing the gap to 38-37.
Loyola ended the first half on an 8-0 run taking a 30-23 lead into the break.
Will McClurkin recorded a team-high 15 points and nine rebounds, while Pierre Monagan hit four three-pointers off the bench for 12 points on the night. Freshman Jared Jordan was also in double-digits with 11 points.
Marist is back on the court on Saturday, January 31st when the travel to Rider for a doubleheader with the women's team. Tip-off is scheduled to begin at 3:00pm.
