NEW YORK (AP) - Brandon Ellerbee had 13 points and Marist beat Holy Cross
59-55 Saturday despite scoring just four points over the final 6:10, all free
throws. It was the Crusaders' third loss at Madison Square Garden in seven
days.
Pierre Monagan scored on a nice spin move after a turnover to give the Red
Foxes (3-8) a 55-47 lead with 6:11 to play. That was their last field goal of
the game.
Kevin Hamilton hit two 3-pointers in an 8-2 run that brought Holy Cross
(5-7) within 57-55 with 51 seconds to play.
Eric Siegrist missed the front end of a 1-and-1 for Marist with 47 seconds
to play, but John Hurley missed a shot down low with 26 seconds left and two
free throws with 13 seconds left for the Crusaders.
Will McClurkin made two free throws for Marist with 11 seconds left to seal
the win.
Chris Handy had 10 points for the Red Foxes, who were just 9-for-15 from the
free throw line.
Hurley and Hamilton each had 17 points for Holy Cross, which was just
4-for-14 from the free throw line, including 3-for-10 by Hurley.
The Crusaders lost by two points to Manhattan in the semifinals of the
Holiday Festival last Sunday and by three points to St. John's in the
third-place game the next night.
Before the Holiday Festival, Holy Cross was last in Madison Square Garden in
1986.
