Riverdale, NY - The women's basketball team lost it first Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game of the season falling to Manhattan 56-42 this evening at Draddy Gymnasium. With the loss, Marist falls to 6-6 overall, 2-1 in the MAAC.

The Jaspers (6-5, 1-2) jumped out in the first half on a 8-0 run, capped by a Donnette Reed jumper. The Lady Jaspers led by as many as 12 in the first half, that lead soon ended as Marist sparked an 11-2 run to come within one at 17-16 on a Kristin Keller lay-in. But Manhattan continued to control the rest of the half, holding the Red Foxes to just one field goal in the last six minutes and ended the half with the score of 23-18.

Manhattan opened the second half on a 6-2 run, but a three-pointer by Nina Vecchio halted the Lady Jaspers, and pulled Marist to 29-25. Vecchio led Marist with 12 points, on 4-6 shooting from beyond the arc. She also dished out three assists on the night, including her 500th career assist. She is currenly the all-time career assists leader.

Senior Stephanie Del Preore was also in double-figures with 11 points and nine rebounds, coming just two points shy of her 900th career points.

For Manhattan senior Rosalee Mason notched a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Junior Serra Sangar joined Mason in double figures with 15 points, adding three rebounds and three steals.

Marist will be back in action on Sunday, January 11th as they tip-off against Rider at 2:00pm at the McCann Center.
