The Marist volleyball team recorded a huge victory over MAAC foe Canisius, 3-1 this afternoon. Four Marist players recorded double-doubles in the win, while four players had double-digit kills and five players had double-digit kills.
The Golden Griffs had a 29-27 lead in game one, however, the Red Foxes would not back down, tying the game at 29-29 after a kill from senior captain Amy Gillespie (Lebo, KS), one of her 14 on the night. The two teams traded points until Marist came out on top with the 37-35 win. Canisius rebounded in game two, capitalizing on Red Fox errors to take a 30-17 victory. Marist stormed back to take games three and four, 30-28 and 30-26, respectively, giving them the final, 3-1 win.
Marist sophomore Kim McEathron (Ballston Spa, NY) had a tremendous performance for the Red and White, posting a double-double with 15 kills as well as new career highs for digs with 24 and aces with three. Classmate Jaime Kenworthy (Aston, PA) recorded yet another double-double this season, with 11 kills and 17 digs while Sally Hanson (Guerneville, CA) led Marist with 17 kills and five blocks on the night. Gillespie's double-double included her 14 kills and 10 digs as well as three blocks. The fourth Marist double-double came from junior captain Meghan Cochrane (Placentia, CA) who tied her career high with 58 assists while chipping in 10 digs.
Marist moved to 10-9 overall, 1-1 in the MAAC with the win while Canisius fell to 7-11, 0-1 in the MAAC.
The Lady Red Foxes will be in action again tomorrow when they face Niagara at 12:00 p.m. at the Gallagher Center.
