The Marist volleyball team fell to Harvard this afternoon, 3-0, taking the Red Foxes' record to 9-7 on the season while the Crimson improved to 7-4. Marist sophomore Stefanie Miksch (Austin, TX) led her team with her second straight double-double tallying 10 kills and 13 digs.
Harvard came out strong in game one, taking a 30-22 victory, and control of the match that they would never relinquish. After falling 30-21 in game two, the Red Foxes took an early lead in game three, but the Crimson fought back to win the decisive game.
Miksch's classmate Sally Hanson (Guerneville, CA) joined her in posting 10 kills, her second-straight double-digit offensive match. Juniors Katie Lux (Wantagh, NY) and Meghan Cochrane (Placentia, CA) led the Red Foxes' defense with 18 and 16 digs each, respectively. Cochrane also chipped in assists on 33 of Marist's 40 total kills.
Harvard's Kaego Ogbechie led her team with 13 kills while Elizabeth Blotky led the defense with 20 digs.
Marist will take the court again on Wednesday Oct. 6 when it takes on Siena in the team's Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference opener at 7:00 p.m. at the McCann Center. The Red Foxes, who were picked to finish seventh in the MAAC pre-season poll, are out to prove their critics wrong in the hunt for the school's first ever conference tournament appearance.
