The Marist volleyball team dropped a 3-0 contest to MAAC foe Iona tonight. The Gaels applied steady pressure while Marist struggled to get an offensive run going. Sophomore Sally Hanson (Guerneville, CA) recorded 11 kills on .500 hitting to lead Marist in the loss.
The Gaels started off solid, taking a 30-23 game one win over the Red Foxes, who kept pace for much of the game, but succumbed to Iona's offensive pressure late. Iona rode its momentum into game two, coming away with a 30-19 win. The Lady Red Foxes battled back from a seven point deficit early in game three, but the Gaels pulled away late in the match to take the 30-23 win.
Sophomore Jaime Kenworthy (Aston, PA) tallied nine attacks and six digs for Marist while classmate Dominique O'Sullivan (Anaheim, CA) led the defense with 11 digs. Junior setter Meghan Cochrane (Placentia, CA) tallied 11 digs of her own as well as 32 assists in the losing effort.
The Red Foxes will return to action on Saturday when they host the Stags of Fairfield at 2:00 p.m. at the McCann Center.
