Rider Offense Too Strong For Red Foxes

Oct. 3, 2004

Box Score

Poughkeepsie, NY - The Marist women's soccer team fell to MAAC foe Rider this afternoon, 6-1. The Red Foxes' record fell to 2-9 (0-2 MAAC) with the loss, while the Broncs improved to 5-4 (1-1 MAAC). Sophomore Susie Seggel (Lavalette, NJ) scored Marist's lone goal, the first of her collegiate career.

The Broncs got on the board early with back-to-back goals from Tami Coyle, both assisted by Aileen Ascolese. The Red Foxes picked up the offensive pressure after that, but could not find the back of the net. Rider would score twice more in the half, bringing the tally to 4-0 at the break.

Marist freshman Liz Herber (Scottsdale, AZ) took over in goal for the Red Foxes in the second half, when she made seven big saves. Rider's Marianne Hanna and Ascolese each recorded a goal in the second half, to seal the win. Marist recorded six shots in the second half, three from junior Ashley Johnson (Avalon, NJ). Seggel's goal came with just under two minutes remaining in the game after a free kick from senior Laura Clark (Syracuse, NY) deflected off the post and into striking range.

The Red Foxes will next be in action on Tuesday when they take on the Black Knights of Army at 7:00 p.m. on Leonidoff Field. Marist will look for its second-straight win over the Patriot League foe, after downing Army 1-0 at West Point last season.
