Jersey City, NJ -
The Marist women's soccer team fell to St. Peter's this afternoon in its final match of the 2004 season. Despite scoring a goal just five minutes into the match, the Red Foxes struggled to mount a continued attack on the Peahens.
Marist freshman Melanie Ondrejik (Manalapan, NJ) scored her second goal of the weekend off an assist from sophomore Jenna McCrory (N. Kingstown, RI) at just 5:49 to get the Red Foxes off to a quick start. Both teams were stagnant for the next 25 minutes until St. Peter's mounted an offensive blitz, recording three goals in ten minutes. Despite outshooting the Peahens, 9-7 in the first, the Red Foxes went into the break down 3-1.
St. Peter's would continue to put on the offensive pressure, posting two more quick goals in the second half, sealing the victory. The last 30 minutes of the game proved to be a defensive battle, as neither team would score again. Five different Peahens scored goals in the St. Peter's win, and goalkeeper Angelina Albruzzese had a solid afternoon between the pipes with seven saves.
Marist junior Jillian Berry (Acton, MA) earned her first start of the season in goal and she and rookie Liz Herber (Scottsdale, AZ) combined for three saves on the afternoon.
The Red Foxes, who will graduate three seniors from this year's squad, closed out the 2004 season with a 4-14-1 record, 2-6-1 in the MAAC.
