The Marist volleyball team lost to Siena this evening, 3-2. After the Red Foxes won game one, 30-23, the two teams traded games, with Siena pulling out the 15-13 victory in game five.
Marist took the early lead, with a 30-23 victory in game one, hitting a match-high .303 as a team. The Saints battled back in game two to take the 30-21 win, but Marist came back back to take a 30-24 victory in game three. Siena controlled the rest of the match, winning game four, 30-25 and taking the decisive game five, 15-13, powered by the serving efforts of Liz Hubbard.
Marist was led by sophomore Sally Hanson (Guerneville, CA), who recorded 15 kills and seven blocks and freshman Christy Lukes (Mesa, AZ), who hit a powerful .632 on 13 kills. Junior Katie Lux (Wantagh, NY) and sophomore Kim McEathron (Ballston Spa, NY) paced the Red Foxes' defense, posting 18 and 15 digs, respectively. Junior setter Meghan Cochrane (Placentia, CA) tallied 43 assists on 52 of Marist's total kills.
The Saints were led by Christe Gustafson who recorded a double-double with 26 kills and 15 digs. She was joined in double figure kills by Janine Pesusich and Elizabeth Akin. Hubbard tallied eight service aces on the day, along with four blocks.
The Lady Red Foxes will be in action again this Friday when they host Syracuse at 6:00 p.m. at the McCann Center.
