The Marist women's soccer team shutout Canisius this evening, 2-0 in its first Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference win of the season. Goalies Danielle Cibelli (Paramus, NJ) and Liz Herber (Scottsdale, AZ) combined for the Marist shutout, with the defense holding the Golden Griffs to just two shots on goal.
Marist struck early in the game, when freshman Kristina Anderson (Tomkins Cove, NY) scored off an assist from Ashley Johnson (Avalon, NJ) at 14:54. The Griffs could not mount an attack for the rest of the game, while the Red Foxes continued the offensive pressure, posting 21 shots to Canisius' nine. Marist senior captain Laura Clark (Syracuse, NY) recorded her first goal of the season when she broke through two defenders, finding the back of the net off a feed from classmate, captain Courtney Moore (Harwinton, CT), at 83:54 to seal the victory.
Canisius goaltender Jenna Gage had a solid night in goal, picking up nine saves in the loss. Marist's Cibelli and Herber combined for two saves on the night. The Red Foxes outshot the Griffs, 21-9 in the win.
The Lady Red Foxes will be in action again on Sunday Oct. 10 when they face MAAC foe, Niagara at 1:00 p.m.
