The Marist women's volleyball game lost a tough 3-0 match to MAAC foe Rider this evening at the McCann Center. Despite close play throughout the match, the Broncs came out on top 30-27, 30-26, 30-26. Sophomore Sally Hanson (Guerneville, CA) had a quality night for the Foxes, leading her team with 14 kills and four blocks.
The Red Foxes kept things close in game one paced by five kills on .455 hitting from senior Amy Gillespie (Lebo, KS). However, the Broncs would pull away from a late-game tie to take to 30-26 victory. Rider kept the pressure on in game two, jumping out to a 9-1 lead early in the contest. Marist pulled back into it, tying the game at 23-23, but could not pull out the win. Game three proved a back and forth battle as the two teams traded points with the Broncs coming out on top.
Marist sophomore Kim McEathron (Ballston Spa, NY) had another solid outing, posting nine kills and 10 digs, just shy of a double-double. Classmates Jaime Kenworthy (Aston, PA) and Jackie Poston (Huntingtown, MD) each tallied six kills, with Poston hitting .556 and Kenworthy adding nine digs to her totals. Junior Katie Lux (Wantagh, NY) led the defense with 15 digs.
The Broncs boasted three players with double-digit digs including Nastasja Avramovic who had 19. Jaclyn Levi and Stefanie Lombardo paced the offensive attack with 15 and 12 kills, respectively.
The Lady Red Foxes close out their season tomorrow when they face Loyola at 6:00 p.m. at the McCann Center. Prior to the match, the team will honor seniors Amy Gillespie and Aline DosSantos as it will be their final contest for the Red and White.
