POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y.-Will McClurkin tallied 20 points and 14 rebounds to go with Jared Jordan's 13 points and 14 assists to lead homestanding Marist to a 82-76 win over St. Peter's Monday evening at the James J. McCann Center. Marist improved to 3-4 overall (1-1 MAAC) with the win, while St. Peter's fell to 2-3 overall and 1-1 in league play. McClurkin's 14 rebounds were a career high, bettering his mark of 11 that he set twice earlier this season. Jordan's 14 assists were also a career mark, topping his career mark of 10 set in Friday's one-point loss at Rider.
Will Whittington tossed in 22 points and six three-pointers (five in the first half) while freshman Ryan Stilphen had 13 points and seven rebounds.
St. Peter's was led by Corey Hinnant's 21 points. MAAC Preseason Player of the Year Keydren Clark finished with 18 in the contest after going the first 35 minutes of the game with just two. Terrance Watkins also posted 12 points and 10 rebounds.
The Red Foxes raced out to an early lead, going up by as much as 23 on a Stilphen jumper (35-12) at the 3:03 mark. Marist finished with a 22-point advantage at the half, 38-16.
St. Peter's roared back in the second half, closing the game to within five (81-76) with 24 seconds left, but Whittington recorded a game-clinching steal to salt away the victory.
Marist shot 54.7 percent from the field (29-for-53), while the Peacocks shot 38.5 percent (30-for-78). Marist shot 38.1 percent (8-for-21) from three-point range, while St. Peter's tossed in 34.4 percent (11-for-32). The Red Foxes hit 64 percent from the line (16-for-25), while the Peacocks hit 5-for-9 (55.6 percent).
St. Peter's was hampered by just 17.1 percent shooting (6-for-35) in the first half.
Marist will host Lafayette Friday at 7:30 in its next contest.
