Poughkeepsie, NY - The Marist College men's basketball team dropped a 76-52 decision to visiting Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) foe Manhattan this evening at the McCann Center. The Red Foxes fall to 6-18 on the year and 4-11 in conference action, while the Jaspers improve to 20-4 on the year and 15-1 in MAAC play.
Eric Sosler connected of four straight free throws in the final 40 seconds of the first-half, cutting the deficit to 11 points, 34-23, but Mike Konovelchick drained a three-pointer with two seconds in the half to stop the rally and make the halftime score 37-23.
The Jaspers tallied the first seven points of the second half to open a 21-point lead, 44-23 2:20 into the second half. The Red Foxes answered with a seven-point run of their own to get to win 14 points, 44-30 with 15:24 left and were within 13, 46-33 with 13:48 left in the game. Manhattan extended the lead back to 21 points over the next 76 seconds to take a 54-33 lead. Marist again answered with its own 7-0 run over the next 1:15, but could get no closer.
Marist struggled on the boards, getting out rebounded for the game 39-21, including just six caroms in the second half of play.
Jared Jordan played well again for Marist, shooting 3-6 from the field for eight points, and pulling down a team-high five boards. He also recorded three steals and dished out two assists in his 36 minutes of play. Will McClurkin led Marist with 12 points.
Freshman Kerry Parks played 18 minutes for Marist off of the bench as scored six points, had four boards and a career-high three blocked shots. Brandon Ellerbee added eight points, three assists and three steals for the Red Foxes.
Luis Flores led all scores with 30 points on 9-19 shooting from the field and 10-14 from the free throw line. Dave Holmes was the only other Jasper in double-figures with 12 points before fouling out. Manhattan shot 46.2 percent from the field for the game and 82.1 percent from the line.
Marist is back in action on Saturday, February 21st, traveling to Albany, NY to take on Siena College at the Pepsi Arena. That game will tip-off at 7:00 pm, a change from the originally scheduled 1:00 pm start.
