Baseball Defeats Manhattan 10-3 In Opener, Falls 8-1 In Nightcap

Poughkeepsie, NY- The Marist College baseball team split a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) double-header with visiting Manhattan College, this afternoon, winning the first game 10-3, and dropping the nightcap 8-1. The Red Foxes are now 9-18 overall and 5-3 in MAAC play, while Manhattan is now 7-15-1 on the year and 3-3 in MAAC play.

George Heath earned the win in the first game, improving to 4-4 on the year. He allowed a two-run homer in the second inning, and an unearned run in the ninth in tossing 8.1 innings for the victory. He scattered nine hits in the effort and fanned three to earn the win. Mike Parisi took the loss for the Jaspers, allowing seven runs, six earned in 4.0 innings of work.

Travis Musolf and Keith Brachold contributed most of the offensive in game one, Musolf going 3-4 with three runs and Brachold going 3-4 with three runs an two RBI. Jimmy Board also had two RBI in the game, as did Kevin Buck.

The second game started off in a similar fashion, with both team tallying a run in the first, but the Jaspers added a pair in the second and three more in the third, before putting scoring insurance runs in the fifth and sixth-innings. Josh Santerre tossed the complete game, allowing just five hits, walking five and striking out three to improve to 3-3. Scott Chambers took the loss, allowing six runs in 2.2 innings on six hits. Eric Supplee tossed the final 4.1 innings, fanning one, and allowing two runs, one earned, on six hits.

Buck had the lone RBI, a sacrifice fly in the first, as Marist had five players with one hit in the second game.

John Fitzpatrick had a solo homerun in the second game for Manhattan, going 2-3, while Josh Greco provided the Jaspers runs in the opener, with a two-run blast. Greco finished the double-header 4-8 with three runs scored an two RBI.

The two teams will complete the three-game set, Monday, April 12th, with a nine-inning game scheduled for 1:00 pm .
