Women's Tennis Edged By Niagara 4-3 For First Loss of the Season

Poughkeepsie, NY- The Marist College women's tennis team had their perfect season flawed this afternoon as defending Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Champion (MAAC) Niagara edged the Red Foxes 4-3 in a battle of undefeated teams. The Red Foxes fall to 10-1 overall and 5-1 in the MAAC while Niagara improves to a perfect 12-0 on the season and 6-0 in conference play.

Marist took three out of six singles matches on the day. Deadlocked 3-3 with one singles match to play, junior Courtney McGeever was edged by Jacquelyn Cary in three sets, 6-4, 1-6, 6-3 to give Marist its first loss of the season.

Annabel Hicks earned another victory at the third spot defeating Danielle Grenier, 6-3, 5-3, ret., while Yana Krugly downed Aditi Krishnan, 6-4, 6-4 at the number four singles. Freshman Megan Gureck notched a win at the fifth spot, beating Kendra Daigler, 6-4, 6-3.

Yana Tikhonko and Krugly remained in dual match play as they picked up the only doubles win for Marist by defeating Krishnan and Milena Matijevic, 8-3.

The Red Foxes are back in action tomorrow as they travel to Manhattan at 2:00pm to wrap-up conference play.
