Poughkeepsie, NY - The Marist College baseball team scored three runs in its final two at-bats to complete a three-game sweep of visiting Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) baseball foe Canisius, this afternoon on the McCann Baseball Field. The Red Foxes, winners of four straight, improve to 13-19 overall and 8-4 in conference action, while the Griffs fall to 2-24 overall and 2-10 in the MAAC.
The Griffs tallied four runs off of Marist reliever Travis Timmons in the top of the seventh to knot the game at 7-7. Eric Supplee (2-0) came in with runners on base, but induced a double-play ball to end the inning. The Red Foxes struck back in their part of the seventh inning. After the first two batters were struck out by Griff hurler JT Wright (0-4), Kevin Grauer singled and then stole second base, scoring on an RBI single by Eric Johnson. After a walk to Andy Kiriakedes advanced Johnson to second, Travis Musolf singled up the middle to plate Johnson.
Supplee allowed the first two batters of the eighth inning to reach base, but induced another double play, and then ended the inning allowing no runs on an infield groundout. Kevin Buck led off the bottom of the eighth and scored an a sacrifice fly by Tyler Brock to wrap up the scoring. Rob Ryan retired the Griffs in order in the ninth for his fourth save.
Brock finished the game 3-2 with four RBI and a run scored, while Grauer was 2-3 with a run and an RBI. Buck was 2-3 with two runs, and Jimmy Board scored twice, going 2-4 with an RBI.
Lucas Robinson earned a no-decision as the Red Foxes starter, giving up three runs on five hits in 6.0 innings. He fanned four and walked two in the game. Michael Rees started for Canisius, allowing six runs on six hits, walked four and struck out six in 5.0 innings, and earned a no decision.
Kevin Smith and Gabe Baida both had two RBI for the Griffs, on 1-5 days at the plate for each of them. Brian Hartmann was 2-3 with an RBI and a run, and Hapreet Padda finished the game 2-5 with a run scored.
Marist returns to action on Wednesday, April 21st, as it travels to Norwich, CT for a 4:00 pm, with a double-header versus Brown. The Red Foxes return home next weekend for a three-game MAAC set with St. Peter's, beginning at noon both Saturday and Sunday.
