SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- The Marist College baseball team took to the road Saturday and earned a split with Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) front runner, LeMoyne. After dropping the first game 14-2, the Red Foxes rebounded to earn a 6-3 win in the nightcap.
In the nightcap, the two clubs played to a 3-3 tie through five frames. Jimmy Board belted a solo home run to lead off the top of the sixth and tacked on a two-run shot in the seventh to deliver the win for the Red Foxes. Junior Scott Chambers struck out seven and allowed eight hits for his fourth victory of the season. Travis Musolf went 3-for-3 to lead the 11-hit attack.
In the opener, Le Moyne scored eight runs in the bottom of the seventh to break open a 3-2 game. Connors singled in a run, Anthony Aquilino doubled home two, Brian Hansen doubled in one run and Mike Affronti ripped a grand slam home run over the fence in left. The Dolphins led 11-2 after seven and tacked on three more runs in the eighth. Connors led the 14-hit attack with a 4-for-5 game.
Le Moyne junior starter Matt Scherer allowed eight hits and two runs in eight innings. In improving to 6-2, Scherer struck out five, but allowed his first walk of the MAAC season. George Heath allowed nine runs, eight earned in six and 1/3 innings of work for Marist.
Jeff Justice had three of Le Moyne's eight hits in the second game.
Le Moyne and Marist will square off in the final game of their MAAC series and the Dolphins' final MAAC home contest of the season tomorrow at noon.
