Red Foxes Tally Two Runs In Final At-Bat To Defeat Siena 3-2

May 16, 2004

Box Score

Poughkeepsie, NY - The Marist College baseball team captured the deciding game of a three-game Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) series with Siena College, 3-2, this afternoon, on the McCann Baseball Field.

Trailing 2-1 with one out in the bottom of the ninth, Andy Kiriakedes tripled to right center field. Travis Musolf snaked a ground ball up the middle, through the Saints (27-23; 13-9 MAAC) drawn in infield, to score Kiriakedes and tie the game at 2-2. Junior Keith Brachold followed that with a double to left center field, which brought Musolf around to plate the winning run.

The Red Foxes (23-27; 15-9 MAAC) received a solid outing from starting pitcher Lucas Robinson. Robinson tossed a complete game, five-hitter, to improve his season record to 4-3. The Saints had four hits in the first two innings off of Robinson, and plated two runs in the top of the second for a 2-0 lead. Robinson did not allow a hit in the third, fourth or fifth innings, and after a lead off single in the sixth, did not allow another hit the remainder of the way, retiring seven Saint batters.

Siena starter John Lannan threw well in earning a no-decision, tossing 5.1 innings, allowing one run on nine hits and fanning four. Josh Copskey took the loss, throwing 3.0 innings, allowing two runs on five hits.

The Red Foxes got on the board in the fourth, when Jimmy Board hit a slow grounder down the third base line, scoring Bryan Towler, making the score 2-1 Siena.

Marist was solid defensively, getting out of a series of jams with three double plays in the game. The Red Foxes turned the first in the fifth inning, as Kiriakedes flipped to Musolf, who finished the play onto Board at first base, for the inning ending double play. The Saints got a lead off singe in the sixth, before Robinson induced a ground ball to Kiriakedes, for the 6-4-3 double play. The seventh inning again saw a leadoff man reach for the Saints, before Musolf ranged behind second to field a ground ball and start the 4-6-3 double play.

Musolf finished 2-5 with an RBI and the game-winning run to his credit. Board was 2-4 with an RBI and Kiriakedes continued to heat up, going 3-4 with the game-tying run and a triple to his credit. Justin Lepore was also 2-4 for the Red Foxes and Eric Johnson was 1-3 with a double.

Tony Cipolla was the only Saint with two hits on the day, 2-4, while Blake Hannan and Matt Gidaly had RBI for the visitor.

Marist returns to action on Friday, May 21st, when it hosts Iona in a MAAC double-header. The Red Foxes will conclude the regular season with a nine-inning game at home versus the Gaels on Sunday, May 23rd. Both days are slated for a noon first pitch, and there will be a Senior Day ceremony preceding the contest on Sunday.
