Box Score

Orono, ME - Marist women's soccer lost to Sacred Heart in its second game of the season, falling 2-1 to the Pioneers. The match closed out a weekend trip to the University of Maine for the Black Bear Invitational. The loss brings the Red Foxes' record to 0-2, while Sacred Heart improved to 1-1. The University of Maine won its own tournament, blanking Providence today, 5-0.

Both teams came out of the gates surging, with Sacred Heart's Nathalie Urbas finding the back of the net just 3:10 into the match to give the Pioneers the 1-0 lead. The Red Foxes would answer back just four minutes later as freshman Kristina Anderson (Tomkins Cove, NY) sent one home off a feed from sophomore Jenna McCrory (N. Kingstown, RI). The goal would mark the first of the season for the Red Foxes, and the first of Anderson's collegiate career. That would close out the scoring for the half, as the teams took a 1-1 tie into the break.

Less than one minute into the second half, the Pioneers capitalized on a Marist error, and took the 2-1 lead off the Red Foxes' own goal. Both teams were scoreless for the remainder of the half, leaving the final score at 2-1.

The Pioneers out shot the Red Foxes 18-10, with 12 of their attempts coming in the first half. Sophomore goalkeeper Danielle Cibelli (Paramus, NJ) had 10 saves in goal for Marist, while her counterpart, Ashley Mocarski, picked up two.

Anderson took two shots on the day for the Red Foxes, while senior captain Laura Clark (Syracuse, NY) led the offensive attack with three.

The women's soccer team will next be in action when it travels to the University of Maryland, Baltimore County to take on Retrievers on Friday Sept. 3 at 4:00 p.m. UMBC will come into the game with an 0-1 record, having fallen to MAAC foe Rider, 3-2 this weekend.
