Red Foxes Fall to Bearcats 3-2

Sept. 1, 2004

Box Score

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y.--The Marist Red Foxes opened the 2004 season with a 3-2 loss to visiting Binghamton at Leonidoff Field Wednesday night.

Sophomore Keith Detelj tallied a goal and an assist while sophomore Anthony Graci added a goal. Detelj's goal off a free kick in the 73rd minute brought the Red Foxes within a goal but that was as close as they would get the rest of the way. Senior Tomislav Rogic's header over the goal in the 86th minute proved to be Marist's last gasp.

The 22nd-ranked Bearcats (1-0) got the scoring started in the sixth minute on Bryan Arnault's goal, which was assisted by Charles Darkwah. Darkwah would add two goals, scoring off a Stephen Bruce pass in the 38th minute and adding the game-winner in the 54th minute.

Senior Mike Valenti played 57 minutes in goal while sophomore Michael Danyo made one save in 33 minutes in net.

Play was rough all night as the referees handed out nine yellow cards to the two teams.

The Red Foxes (0-1) are back in action Saturday when they travel to Stony Brook for a 7 p.m. contest.
