The Marist volleyball team defeated Holy Cross this afternoon in the dramatic final match of the Red Fox Classic, evening its record to 2-2 on the weekend. The Crusaders took the first game of the match, 30-28, and then Marist won games two and three, both 30-26. Holy Cross came back in the fourth, winning it 30-27 and Marist took game five 15-12.
Sophomore Jaime Kenworthy (Acton, PA) recorded her second double-double of the day, nailing 23 kills and recording 25 digs. Senior Amy Gillespie (Lebo, KS) recorded 12 kills, 24 digs and three blocks in the win. Sophomore Kim McEathron (Ballston Spa, NY) also earned a double-double with 17 kills and 11 digs. Classmate Sally Hanson (Guerneville, CA) hit home 13 kills while recording four blocks and eight service aces. Katie Lux (Wantagh, NY) paced the defense with 35 digs while Meghan Cochrane (Placentia, CA) recorded 56 assists and 19 digs. During the match, Cochrane broke the career assists record and now stands first all-time in Marist history with 2,669 helpers.
Caitlin Agostinacchio led the Crusaders with 24 kills and 23 digs while Valerie Mora recorded 12 kills and 21 digs. Senior Lauren Liesman led the Holy Cross defense with 24 digs while classmate Michelle Leahy paced the offense with 48 assists as well as recording 14 digs and three service aces.
Sally Hanson was named to the Red Fox Classic All-Tournament team for her efforts this weekend including 12 kills against Central Connecticut, 11 kills and eight digs against Brown and 13 digs and eight aces against Holy Cross.
