Poughkeepsie, N.Y. - The Marist Red Foxes (2-3) earned their first home victory of the 2004 season, defeating Hofstra 3-1 tonight at Leonidoff Field. Sophomore midfielder Anthony Graci scored the game-winning goal and added an assist to lead the Red Foxes.
Hofstra (2-4) took the early lead in the ninth minute on a Michael Todd goal, which was assisted by Matthew Telling.
The Red Foxes would strike back in the 30th minute when sophomore forward Keith Detelj, the MAAC's leading scorer, scored his fourth goal of the season, which was assisted by Graci and junior forward Bobby Van Dyke.
Marist would add the game-winner shortly before halftime as Graci scored an unassisted goal, his fourth, in the 43rd minute. The Red Foxes would tack on the final goal in the 80th minute when junior forward Bruno Machado raced the length of the field to beat Pride goalkeeper Matthias Gumbrecht.
Senior goalkeeper Mike Valenti made three saves to earn the win. Marist outshot Hofstra 22-13.
The Red Foxes are back in action Wednesday, Sept. 29, hosting Hudson Valley rival Army under the lights at Leonidoff Field. Game time is 7 p.m.
