The Marist volleyball team lost to West Virginia, 3-1 this evening in its second match of the Marist Invitational Tournament. The team's overall record fell to 8-5 with the loss, and 1-1 on the weekend, while West Virginia improved to 6-6.
The Mountaineers got off to a quick start, winning game one 30-13. The Red Foxes rebounded in game two, fighting back to a 33-31 win. The Mountaineers, however, would prove too strong for the Red Foxes as they came out with a 30-14 win in game three and a 30-23 victory in game four.
Sophomore Stefanie Miksch (Austin, TX) led the Red Foxes with a season-high 14 kills while contributing six digs. Junior setter Meghan Cochrane (Placentia, CA) recorded a double-double on the night, posting 35 assists and 17 digs. Classmate Katie Lux (Wantagh, NY) recorded 22 digs to lead the Red Foxes' defense. Sophomore Sally Hanson (Guerneville, CA) chipped in nine kills on offense for the Red Foxes in the losing effort.
West Virginia had three players in double-digit kills, including Gina Cusanelli, who led with 17. Aurora Ebert-Santos paced the Mountaineers' defense with 19 digs.
The Red Foxes will be in action again tomorrow, Sept. 25 when they face Columbia at 12:00 p.m. at the McCann Center.
