Poughkeepsie, NY - The Marist women's tennis team defeated Rider, 5-2 this afternoon in its first Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference contest of the season. With the win, the Red Foxes record improved to 2-1 overall, 1-0 in the MAAC.

On the doubles side, Marist swept the bracket, picking up three victories. The senior-freshman team of Diana Perachio and Erin Godly picked up a huge win over Amanda Doetsch and Devon Crawbuck, 8-0 in first doubles. Yana Tikhonko and Megan Gureck downed Caitlin Crawbuck and Dana Prevetti, 8-3 in second doubles while Courtney McGeever and Amy Albert defeated Carolina Duval and Logan Kapianus, 8-6 in third doubles.

In singles, Tikhonko lost to Doetsch, 6-0, 6-7, 13-15 in a hard fought first singles matchup. Perachio downed D. Crawbuck, 6-1, 6-4 in second singles while Gureck fell to C. Crawbuck, 6-1, 6-1 in third singles. Godly downed Duval, 6-1, 6-1 for her second singles win of the season in the fourth draw. McGeever downed Kapianus, 6-2, 6-1 in fifth singles while Albert defeated Prevetti, 6-2, 6-1 in sixth singles.

The Red Foxes will next be in action when they travel to Holy Cross for a matchup against the Crusaders on Wednesday Sept. 29 at 2:30 p.m.
